The project involves the sensitive re-modelling of this much-loved 19th century park to enhance its existing qualities and to carefully integrate new facilities. The masterplan has been developed through an extensive process of engagement with local people, including the Friends of the Park, which identified key concerns and priorities for improvement.
The path system is subtly altered to create a more legible network within the existing structure of mature trees and new, inclusive, play facilities are proposed, within a garden environment, which will appeal to a broad age range.
Planting is rationalised to both open up the space and to frame entrances with proposals to intensify an existing ‘Field of Lavender’.
