Glimpsing Green

Children from Northwood Primary School celebrated the opening of new play area, adjacent to their school, at Glimpsing Green in Erith. Turkington Martin who led the design of the play area, ran a number of workshops with the students to find ways of making the play area more welcoming and fun. The workshops enabled the children to select a range of new play equipment and design a variety of eye-catching totem poles which can attract passers-by. Glimpsing Green is one of a number of play areas in the Thamesmead area which the practice is designing for Peabody and part of a wider, London-wide, strategy of play improvements which the practice is delivering for them.

Stephanie Lai, Peabody’s project manager for the Thamesmead initiatives said;

“We want to cultivate a sense of belonging. We want the children to play there, to treasure and protect it. Even once they’ve outgrown the play area, we hope they will continue to take pride in their work on the project, their local environment and in seeing the next generation of children having fun in the play area.”
